Mirela Fioresy's 'Ghana Portraits' Solo Exhibition at Livraria Cultura<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/div>

The exhibition \u201cGhana Portraits\u201d<\/b><\/span> presents the photographic series resulting from an art residency held in 2013 in the rural village of Abetenim<\/b><\/span>, in the Ashanti region of Ghana<\/b><\/span>. During 25 days, visual artist Mirela Fioresy<\/b><\/span> taught art to students of all ages at a local school, bringing materials and encouraging them to explore nature as a creative tool.<\/p>\n

Throughout this process, Mirela captured the community\u2019s daily life and vibrant energy, revealing the simple beauty and depth of human connection within that environment. Her photographs portray gestures, colors, and atmospheres that express both wonder and reflection on the local way of life.<\/p>\n

The exhibition at the Livraria Cultura Art Gallery<\/b><\/span>, located in Iguatemi Shopping Mall, S\u00e3o Paulo<\/b><\/span>, in 2015, showcased part of this series, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the sensitivity of the portraits and the cultural nuances of Abetenim. Through a delicate and contemplative gaze, the artist builds a bridge between different worlds, transforming lived experience into visual poetry.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the great challenges of photography carried out in diverse cultural contexts, like the present series of images, created during an artistic residency in July 2013 in a rural village in the Ashanti region of Ghana with the support of the NKA Foundation, is ensuring that the result is not merely anthropological \u2013 or purely aesthetic \u2013 but that it reproduces the atmosphere experienced without distorting the perception of the world it captures.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mirela Fiorese n\u00e3o cai nessa armadilha. A maioria de suas representa\u00e7\u00f5es consegue transmitir as impress\u00f5es visuais da comunidade que ela visitou. Nesse sentido, chamam especial aten\u00e7\u00e3o as imagens de pessoas sentadas em meio \u00e0 terra, cercadas por um ambiente onde o verde predomina. A atmosfera evoca, por exemplo, as pinturas de\u00a0<\/span>Almeida Junior<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>retratando o universo rural de S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c9 evidente que as realidades retratadas s\u00e3o distintas, mas o foco aqui recai muito menos no que \u00e9 visto e muito mais em como \u00e9 mostrado. H\u00e1 uma forte conex\u00e3o entre a abordagem do tema e a rela\u00e7\u00e3o com o ambiente ao redor. Mirela consegue oferecer um retrato de Gana atrav\u00e9s de sua singular perspectiva contemplativa.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is an ambiance conveyed through the compositions, the patterns of the women\u2019s clothes, and the gazes of those photographed. It feels as though the post-African community reaches out to the viewers of these images. We are transported into a greater sense of humanity as we delve into this subject matter, gradually drawing closer through a serene and delicate gaze.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
