RE|FRACTION

This project was developed during a funded artist residency at Atelier-Stiftung Kunst und Natur (Bispingen, Germany), July–August 2026.

RE|FRACTION explores the relationship between perception and reality through water as a refractive lens. I photograph familiar landscapes and everyday scenes directly through water, letting lines dissolve, forms overlap, and stable structures turn fluid. Developed during my artistic residency at Atelier-Stiftung Kunst und Natur (Bispingen, Germany), the project investigates how perception shifts depending on the conditions through which we look.

Each scene unfolds in three stages: the original observation, the photograph taken through water, and its watercolor reinterpretation. Through color, gesture, and memory, the painting carries the observed landscape into a new visual register. Water stays present throughout the process: as the lens that distorts, and as the medium I paint with.

RE|FRACTION treats distortion as a way of revealing how reality changes with our point of view. The project suggests that multiple realities can coexist, equally valid. The transparency and fluidity of watercolor extends this optical effect into artistic interpretation: a reminder that perception is never singular, but always shaped by the conditions we see through.

DIP: Quatro Séries, Um Traço oferece uma rara oportunidade de apreciar essas obras de perto. Como muitos visitantes observaram durante a vernissage, fotografias e mídias digitais não conseguem captar a escala, a densidade e a precisão dos detalhes. Essas obras foram feitas para ser vistas presencialmente, para desacelerar, fazer uma pausa e permitir que símbolos, texturas e cores se comuniquem diretamente.

Como a mente se desdobra? Um caleidoscópio de conexões, onde os pensamentos dançam entre clareza e caos. A energia do que é visto e do que não é visto nos lembra da riqueza que existe dentro de nossas próprias mentes.

Série [SUB] Ways:

[Sub] Ways é uma série inspirada nos sistemas de transporte de algumas das maiores metrópoles do mundo. Ela utiliza as linhas de metrô como metáforas para pensamentos que não podem ser controlados.

Cheia e vibrante. Confusa e, ao mesmo tempo, rica. Amada e criticada. Um modo de vida: imersa em um inconsciente coletivo que não conhece o silêncio, mas anseia por momentos de paz. A série explora a luta para reconhecer a si mesmo como indivíduo entre milhões e perguntar: Quem sou eu, realmente?

Série Detalhes:

Um convite para olhar mais de perto. Cada olhar revela um novo segredo, desvendando histórias ocultas. Um chamado a mergulhar em um raro momento de pausa e contemplação.

Série Tempo para Ajudar:

“Time for Help” retrata crianças de orfanatos e pequenas aldeias no Nepal e no Vietnã. Retratos de infâncias marcadas por lacunas, brincando com as cores de um futuro, esperançosamente, mais luminoso.

Synapses 09 is part of the Synapses series, inspired by the collective unconscious: the invisible web of thoughts, memories, and symbols that connect us. Entirely hand-drawn with a dip pen, the work reflects how ideas and symbols emerge both as fragments and as patterns, weaving clarity and chaos together. Rather than focusing on a single personal narrative, it speaks to shared crossings, where flows of connection and recurring forms invite viewers to recognize fragments of themselves within the composition.

Mirela Fioresy is an invited artist in the 45th Edition of Expo Arte SP.

Mirela Fioresy is one of the artists invited to participate in the 45th edition of Expo Arte SP, held at Solar Fábio Prado in São Paulo, where she presents, for the first time in this exhibition, works from her series Water and Oil Don’t Mix.

A Brazilian visual artist based in São Paulo, with exhibitions in Brazil and internationally, Mirela Fioresy develops a practice that investigates the invisible forces shaping how we perceive ourselves and one another. Her work reflects on what brings us together and what separates us, and on how environments, beliefs, and emotions contribute to both individual experience and collective consciousness.

The series Water and Oil Don’t Mix was developed during her artist residency at GlogauAIR in Berlin between October and December 2025. Known for her meticulous dip pen work, the artist expands her research here through a process rooted in a technical principle of painting. By layering oil and acrylic on the same surface, she allows the resistance between these materials to guide the outcome, observing pigments that push, repel, and settle into unexpected organic forms.

This interaction becomes both a process and a conceptual framework. Rather than proposing resolution, the series reflects on coexistence and the ability to share space despite persistent differences. It invites viewers to consider how navigating tension and separation is part of a broader, shared human experience. The works are accompanied by time-lapse recordings that reveal the unfolding of the process.

Solar Fabio Prado

The Solar Fábio Prado is one of São Paulo’s most significant historic residences, embodying the architectural elegance and cultural aspirations of the city’s early 20th-century elite. Built in the 1930s, the mansion reflects a refined European-inspired style, surrounded by landscaped gardens that reinforce its character as both a private residence and a space of social and intellectual gathering.

Today, the building is officially listed (tombado) as a protected heritage site, recognizing its outstanding historical, architectural, and cultural value. This designation ensures the preservation of its original features while allowing it to remain an active space for artistic and cultural programming.
