WATER AND OIL DON’T MIX

Water and Oil Don’t Mix uses the natural resistance between oil and acrylic as a method of discovery. By layering incompatible materials on a single surface, pigments push, repel, and settle into unexpected organic forms. The work unfolds through tension rather than control, positioning material behavior as both process and metaphor for coexistence, separation, and the fragile negotiations that shape collective life.

The project was developed by Mirela Fioresy during GlogauAIR online artist-in-residency program (Berlin-DE). Taking a fundamental lesson from painting that oil and acrylic will never fully blend, the artist transforms this incompatibility into a generative strategy. Through layered applications, the materials interact autonomously, producing forms that emerge from resistance rather than intention.

FALLEN

Fallen originates from the experience of growing up in a house surrounded by palm trees, where the sound of falling fronds was frequent, yet the moment of their descent was never seen.

The work explores this unseen interval between sky and earth, imagining transient forms that exist only in falling and dissolve upon landing. It reflects a childhood way of perceiving the world, when the unseen was filled with wonder rather than fear.

RAW

Raw is an intuitive series created entirely with oil paint and a palette knife, emphasizing the power of direct expression. Made without sketches or pre-planning, the works capture intense, unfiltered emotions with no labels or predefined meanings. Each piece is a visceral exploration of the emotional landscape, inviting a personal connection through the texture and depth of oil paint, an open journey without boundaries or explanations.

ORIGINS

Where the cosmos shapes worlds from the infinite. A dive into the raw essence of beginnings, where stars are born and time unfolds. What lies at the heart of everything? A journey into the origins of the universe, and perhaps, of ourselves.

DETAILS

An invitation to look closer. Each glance revealing a new secret, unraveling hidden stories. Drawing us into a rare moment of thoughtful pause.

[SUB]WAYS

[Sub] Ways is a series inspired by the transportation systems of some of the world’s largest metropolises. It uses subway lines as metaphors for thoughts that cannot be controlled. Crowded yet vibrant. Confusing yet rich. Loved yet criticized. A way of life: immersed in a collective unconscious that knows no silence but longs for moments of peace. It explores the struggle to recognize oneself as an individual among millions and to ask: Who am I, really? It’s about the love-hate relationship with the city and the choice to exist within its chaotic rhythm.

SYNAPSES

How does the mind unfold? A kaleidoscope of connections, where thoughts dance between clarity and chaos. The energy of what is seen and unseen serves as a reminder of the richness within our own minds.

“Time for Help” portrays children from orphanages and small villages in Nepal and Vietnam. Portraits of childhoods filled with gaps, playing with colors of, hopefully, a brighter future. Where there is love, there is hope.

OTHER ARTWORKS

Other Artworks features pieces that are either the last available works from previously released series or individual creations developed outside a series framework. Some emerged from specific research phases or experimental processes that didn’t evolve into full collections.
